Fun in the sun: Easy outdoor activities for the summer

31/05/2019 - ACE News

With the weather gradually starting to get a bit brighter, and the longest day of the year being only a month away, it’s time to make the most of the longer days! The weekends are ideal for making the most of time with the kids, so the ACE team has put together a list of activities you can enjoy as a family in the warmer weather…

Have a picnic

Picnics are a great – and reasonably easy – way to have a fun day out! If you’re heading out with other families, get each group to bring something and share the food. Alternatively, do a big shop with everyone’s favourite snacks and get the kids to help, before you go out, with making their own sandwiches. Head out to your local park – and don’t forget the football or rounders set! If the kids get food down them, or grass stains on their clothes, use ACE Stain Remover Spray to pre-treat the clothes before popping them in the wash.

Go for a walk

Walking outdoors has been proven to have a whole host of positive effects, including lowering stress, lifting mood, improving circulation and helping to maintain a healthy weight. It is also an excellent way of spending time as a family! Take a look at websites that can help you find a route (like Ramblers), go to a nearby park or forest, or find out what National Trust grounds are near you and have an explore.

Set up a treasure hunt

There is nothing like a good old fashioned treasure hunt – they’re easy to set up, and are a really fun activity for the kids! There are plenty of pre-written riddles on the internet for treasure hunts around the house and lots of other places. Grab a few packets of sweets to have as the treasure, and you’re sorted for some fun entertainment for a few hours. Alternatively, Treasure Trails has a whole host of trails all over the country that can help you learn new things about your town, or explore places unknown!

Have a water fight

When the sun is blazing, and it’s too hot to do anything, the only way to cool down is to have a water fight and jump in the paddling pool, right? You don’t even need water guns, grab some buckets and the hose and leave the little ones to drench themselves and each other. Just make sure they don’t wander through the house and get wet or muddy footprints everywhere!

Make your own ice lollies

After the children have enjoyed their water fight and picnic, they’ll want a nice cooling ice lolly of course! The day before, follow these recipes for some child-friendly homemade lollies, or alternatively pour some juice in lolly moulds and pop them in the freezer. Leave overnight and enjoy the next day. If the kids (or you) get juice down your top in the process, don’t worry about it staining – spray the mark with ACE Stain Remover spray before popping the item in the wash with a capful of ACE for Colours.
