Get Your Bikes Out This Week, and Beat the Stains with ACE!

It’s National Bike Week this week – and Father’s Day this weekend – so why not celebrate the two in one with a bike ride? We’ve put together some top tips for why you should get pedalling with your family and some stain-removal tips to tackle the oily inner trouser-leg and mud splats up the back. At ACE we want you to stay active, get messy and spend time with the people who matter most to you. No matter how mucky your clothes end up, our range of stain-removal products will help you remove the stains, but keep the memories.

Why should you encourage your family to start cycling together?

1. It’s easy

No matter how old your sprogs are, it’s really easy to get cycling together. Bike seats, trailers and children’s bikes mean that even the smallest of cyclists can get involved. Once you’ve bought the bikes themselves and some safety gear (helmets are of course a must), you won’t need to shell out for anything else – except maybe a spare tyre or two. It doesn’t have to be too labour intensive either, just a roll around the nearby park and build up to longer routes when you’re ready.

2. It’s fun for everyone

Learning to ride a bike is one of childhood’s fondest memories. Wobbling around on stabilisers, Mum or Dad running alongside you holding the handlebars and that moment when they finally let go – you might get a few scrapes along the way, but it’s worth it in the end for that moment that feels like flying. Even as you get older, it’s still fun to feel the wind on your face and coast down hills – what’s not to love?

3. It helps you stay fit
Cycling is great cardio exercise that gets the
heart pumping, using all the major muscle groups along the way. It increases your stamina, strength and joint mobility whilst being low-impact, meaning that everyone can benefit from going out for a ride regardless of age or fitness level.

4. It reduces stress

Good for the mind as well as the body, getting outside in nature helps to reduce stress and exercise stimulates endorphins, the happy chemicals produced by your brain. Many of us are guilty of spending too much time in front of computer, television and phone screens so taking some time outdoors can be a positive way of spending time together and making memories.

5. It’s a life skill

Many people cycle for fun, but many others also depend on it as a cheap and environmentally friendly way to travel. It teaches balance, self-awareness and hazard perception. Children are fascinated with cars and tractors, so bikes are a less dangerous (and legal) way for them to control something with wheels. It’s much quicker than walking, meaning you can go on longer adventures and explore more. If you’re lucky enough to live near your school/workplace, it’s definitely the season to leave the car at home and pick up the bike instead.

When you’re home, however, the fun might be over when it comes to cleaning up the oil that’s rubbed off the chain or the splash from a muddy puddle that was a delight to zoom straight through. With these tips, your clothes will be clean again in no time – ready for round two.

Oil (or any form of greasy stain) can benefit from a squirt of washing up liquid, ACE Multi-Purpose Spray or washing detergent applied directly and rubbed in. Pop the garment in a hot wash with your usual detergent and a capful of ACE for Colours. Remember to not place the item in the dryer as the heat from the dryer can cause the stain to set, making it difficult to remove.

It is crucial to let mud dry, as washing when wet can make it worse. Pick off any dried mud then wash as normal with your usual detergent and a capful of ACE for Colours. If the stains are still sticking around, soak the item with 10 litres of water, one dosing cap of ACE for Colours and your usual detergent. If the items are white, use ACE for Whites instead, and switch ACE Multi-Purpose Spray to ACE Power Mousse for even better stain removal. Leave it up to one hour and then rinse thoroughly, but always remember to read the clothing label first.
