Barbecue season is upon us (it’s even National BBQ Week this week), and with it comes stains: ketchup, grass, sticky marshmallows, you name it! At ACE, we know spending time with your family is a priority, so we’ve put together some kid-friendly BBQ idea for you to use this summer. And with ACE in your cupboard, there’s no need to worry about spills and stains, so you can focus on what’s really important: creating memories with your little ones.
Ingredients:
500 grams lean minced beef
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 heaped teaspoon ground black pepper
1 large egg
4 slices of bread, crusts removed
5 large burger buns
Various salads, tomato slices, onions, pickles, coleslaw, cheeses and sauces
Method:
Blitz the bread in a food processor until you get a fine crumb.
In a large bowl, squish together the mince, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, egg and bread crumbs.
Form 15 equal balls, and then use wet hands to shape them in to patties about 2cm thick.
Refrigerate the patties for an hour. While you’re waiting, light the grill and prepare your toppings.
Cut each of the large buns in to quarters.
Grill the burgers for 3-4 minutes per side, depending on your liking (we recommend well done for little tummies!).
Let the kids top their burgers with their favourite toppings and tuck in!
Ingredients:
2 courgettes
2 bell peppers – any colour you’d like!
250 grams of halloumi cheese, cut in to 16 chunks
16 cherry tomatoes
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
8 metal or wooden skewers
Method:
Cut the courgettes in half length-wise and then cut into thick chunks.
De-seed the peppers and chop them into wedges.
Thread the halloumi, tomatoes, courgettes and pepper on to the skewers.
Refrigerate the skewers until you are ready to cook.
Mix the lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper together.
Pre-heat or light the grill. Spread the skewers evenly across the rack, and brush with the olive oil mixture.
Cook for 4-5 minutes, turning often, until the cheese turns golden and the veggies are tender.
Slide the halloumi and veggies off the skewers and enjoy!
Ingredients:
6 large bananas (make sure they are ripe but still firm!)
2 large handfuls of chocolate chips
2 large handfuls of miniature marshmallows
Some heavy-duty aluminium foil
Method:
Pre-heat the grill.
Make a deep, lengthwise cut along the inside curve of each banana, being careful not to cut all the way through.
Fill the bananas with chocolate chips and marshmallows.
Loosely wrap the bananas in the aluminium foil, leaving a few centimeters of space inside , and place on the grill.
Cover the grill and let them cook for 8-10 minutes, until the chocolate is melted and the marshmallows are gooey.
Unwrap, and let the little ones (and yourself!) enjoy their sweet treat!
