The Easter holidays mean extra time with your kids, but keeping them occupied can be tricky. We’ve collected some simple craft ideas that will help keep little ones busy for hours, so you can ACE the Easter bank holiday!
Supplies:
Food colouring
Hard boiled eggs
Baking sheet
White shaving cream
A straw
Gloves (if you want to avoid the mess!)
Spray the shaving cream in a thick layer on the baking sheet and spread it evenly. Drip different food colours onto the shaving cream and swirl it around with the straw to give it a tie-dye effect.
Roll an egg through the colours and let sit for 10 minutes or more. Rinse it clean for a fun, messy alternative to the traditional way to dye eggs!
Ingredients and supplies:
3 tablespoons of butter
1 bag of marshmallows
6 cups of crispy rice cereal
Cooking spray
Wooden spoon
Muffin tin
Mini eggs
Melt the butter over medium heat and stir in the marshmallows. Continue to stir until the marshmallows have completely melted. Pour the mixture over the cereal and stir until it is combined.
Spray the muffin tin and wooden spoon with cooking spray. Press the mixture into the muffin tin and make an indent at the top of each with the wooden spoon.
Let the treats cool in the muffin tin until they are solid, then pull them out, fill with mini eggs and enjoy!
Supplies:
Bird seed (whatever your preference!)
2 tablespoons of unflavoured gelatin
2/3 cups boiling water
Biscuit cutters
Plastic straws cut into 3cm pieces
Baking sheet
Wax paper
String (such as baker’s twine)
Dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water. Add two cups of bird seed and mix for two to three minutes, allowing the seeds to absorb the gelatin mixture.
Line the baking sheet with wax paper and top with the biscuit cutters. Fill the cutters with the seed mixture, making sure to overfill them a bit to make sure they’re packed nice and tight.
Cover the filled biscuit cutters with another sheet of wax paper and press down firmly. Remove the top sheet of wax paper and gently insert a straw segment into each, creating a hole for the string.
Allow them to dry for three to four hours, flipping halfway through. Gently push them out of the cutters and let them finish drying overnight before pulling out the straw segments.
Loop string through the holes, hang them in the garden and watch the birds arrive for their spring treat!
